This qualification is the second year of the level 3 two year programme in Travel and Tourism. Most units in this year are internally assessed which means assignments will be assessed within each of the units you study. The course is designed to support progression to further studies with the primary purpose to supporting access to Higher Education within the Leisure, Travel and Tourism Sector. During this course there will be the opportunity to research how to develop successful marketing plans for use in organisations and investigate current travel trends and key issues affecting the industry. You will examining the structure and leadership styles used within the accommodation sectors well as analysing the UK as a tourist destination for both inbound and domestic tourists.

Welcome to Level 3 Media Makeup Diploma!
This course is a fulltime course running over 3 days a week Mon-Wed. You can find a copy of your timetable in the home tab. You will be studying the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatrical, Special Effects and Hair and Media Make-Up this is an occupational qualification for learners seeking a career as an employed and/or self-employed theatrical media make-up artist working with performers to a high level of occupational ability, providing hair and make-up services in the media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries.
This qualification is based on hairdressing and beauty therapy National Occupational Standards (NOS) and is recognised by the UK's lead beauty therapy professional association (The British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology - BABTAC) as being fit for purpose for preparing learners for a career as a professional theatrical media make-up artist.
Why is this qualification most suitable?
This qualification is one of two VTCT qualifications in theatrical hair and media make-up. This qualification is larger than the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Fashion, Theatre and Media Hair and Make-Up Studies. Whilst both qualifications qualify learners to become a professional media make-up artist, this qualification requires learners to achieve more units and to develop a greater breadth of technical skills.
What does this qualification cover?
This qualification has been specifically designed to build on existing knowledge and understanding of media hair and beauty skills and will develop an enhanced repertoire of technical skills to prepare learners for employment as a professional theatrical media make-up artist. You will have their skills assessed in a real or realistic working environment.
This qualification includes all the required elements to work effectively as a professional theatrical media make-up artist including: health and safety practice; client care and communication; airbrush make-up to the face; camouflage make-up; media make-up; fashion and photographic make-up; style and fit postiche and the application of prosthetic pieces and bald caps. These units are all mandatory.
You will further develop your understanding and skills by completing two optional specialist units which include: create and cast small prosthetic pieces and bald caps & creative hairdressing design skills.
The full list of optional units available can be found in the assessment log book. These optional units have been chosen specifically for this cohort of learning based on learner and tutor discussion at interview and industry requirement.
What could this qualification lead to?
Learners who complete this qualification are eligible to become a member of the British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology (BABTAC).
Career opportunities as a theatrical media make-up artist exist in a variety of contexts, including:
- Professional make-up artistry working with performers
- Theatre, film, print media, photographic studios
- Beauty and/or hair salons
- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home based settings
- National Health Service
- Product manufacturing and training
- Hospitals/care homes
Whilst this qualification's primary purpose is to prepare learners for employment as a professional theatrical media make-up artist, learners may choose to further develop their skills base by undertaking advanced specialist qualifications at Level 4, these include:
- VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Salon Management
- VTCT Level 4 Diploma in Salon Management
- VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Specialist Hair and Scalp Services
- VTCT Level 4 Certificate in Hair Colour Correction
- VTCT Level 4 Award in Advanced Hair Styling
The aim of this qualification is to recognise the skills, knowledge and competence required for an individual to work unsupervised as a personal trainer. This includes being able to offer one-to-one training, baseline assessment, nutritional advice and progressive programming which is specific to the individual needs of a client.
Learners will cover:
- anatomy and physiology including: - the heart and circulatory system - the musculoskeletal system - postural and core stability - the nervous, endocrine and energy systems and their relation to exercise and health
- how to maintain health, safety and welfare in a variety of fitness environments, including the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults
- how to programme safe and effective exercise for a range of clients, the health benefits of physical activity and the importance of healthy eating
- how to communicate with clients effectively, and motivate clients to adhere to an exercise programme
- how to apply the principles of nutrition to support client goals as part of an exercise and physical activity programme
- how to design, manage, and adapt a personal training programme with apparently healthy adults of all ages
- how to deliver exercise and physical activity as part of a programme for apparently healthy adults of all ages
This qualification is designed to support learners who want to study travel and tourism as a one-year, full-time course, or for those wanting to take it alongside another area of complementary or contrasting study as part of a two-year, full-time study programme.
You will study 6 units in total of which 4 are mandatory and 2 are external assessments within year 1.
